SPMC Neurosurgical Training Program Secures PBNS Accreditation Renewal
December 5, 2025 – Quezon City, Philippines
The Philippine Board of Neurological Surgery (PBNS) has renewed the accreditation of the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) Neurosurgical Training Program, reaffirming the institution’s adherence to national standards in neurosurgical education and practice. The renewal was formally announced during the annual convention of the Academy of Filipino Neurosurgeons, held on December 4-5, 2025, at Seda Vertis North, Quezon City.
Representing SPMC during the ceremony were Dr. Silvestre Gonzales, Chairman Emeritus of the Neurosurgery Department; Dr. Russel Sasing, Training Officer; and Dr. Eric Paolo Palabyab, Training Coordinator. The delegation received the accreditation certificate on behalf of the program and the institution.
The renewed accreditation highlights SPMC’s sustained commitment to fostering a rigorous and progressive training environment for future neurosurgeons. It also supports the center’s longstanding mission of providing accessible, affordable, high-quality, and appropriate neurosurgical care to communities across Mindanao.
As one of the key training institutions in the region, SPMC continues to play a critical role in strengthening neurosurgical services in Southern Philippines—both through capacity building and by ensuring that patients receive specialized care aligned with national and international standards.
