SPMC Neurosurgery Presents Pediatric Hydrocephalus Research at IFNE 2024 in Dubai
Dr. Joselv Albano and Dr. Jose Nicanor Del Rosario III presented their paper, “Single-center Experience and Retrospective Validation of the ETV versus CCHU Success Scores for Pediatric Hydrocephalus in the Southern Philippines,” at the International Federation of Neuroendoscopy (IFNE) Conference held on December 6–8, 2024, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The study focuses on pediatric hydrocephalus patients managed at Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), with the goal of improving candidate selection for endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV), with or without choroid plexus extirpation. By retrospectively validating and comparing success scoring systems, the work aims to support more informed, evidence-based decision-making in the surgical management of pediatric hydrocephalus in the Southern Philippines.
Their presentation highlights SPMC Neurosurgery’s continuing commitment to advancing neuroendoscopic care, strengthening local research, and adapting international neurosurgical innovations to the needs of patients in Mindanao and the broader region.
The IFNE is the largest internationally recognized neurosurgical organization dedicated solely to the education, research, and promotion of neuroendoscopy. Participation in this global conference places SPMC’s work alongside international efforts to improve minimally invasive neurosurgical treatment for conditions such as hydrocephalus.
Through this research, SPMC Neurosurgery continues to contribute to the growing body of evidence on pediatric neuroendoscopy while championing locally relevant solutions for children with hydrocephalus in the Southern Philippines.
