SPMC Neurosurgical Training Program Secures PBNS Accreditation Renewal
SPMC Neurosurgery holds 2-day drilling workshop and ICP monitor training for nursing staff and junior residents
Last February 24–25, 2026, our junior neurosurgery residents (NS0–NS2) together with our neurosurgical operating room nurses successfully completed a 2-day Neurosurgical Drilling Workshop in partnership with Medtronic.
This hands-on training focused on refining fundamental and advanced drilling techniques essential in cranial and spinal neurosurgery, strengthening both technical precision and operating room teamwork to ensure safer and more efficient patient care.
We would like to extend our appreciation to Janelle Althea Ortega, RN, our specialized neurosurgical OR nurse, for sharing her expertise and delivering a valuable lecture during the workshop. Her contribution greatly enriched the learning experience of our trainees.
The workshop was attended by:
Drs. Sarah Patricia Buhian, Kameela Monique Malbog, Fatima Carcueva, Indira Sumagka, Don Pattaguan, and Joshua Maniego.
Congratulations as well to our neurosurgical operating room nurses who were certified following the activity:
OR nurses Noel Duque, Mylene Jana Añasco, Blessiery Carta, Yvonne Marie Villaruel, and Rowell Revilla.
On February 25, our Neurosurgery ICU nurses also underwent dedicated training on Intracranial Pressure (ICP) monitoring, coinciding with the addition of more ICP monitors in the ICU, further strengthening our critical care capabilities for neurosurgical patients.
We remain committed to continuous education, skills advancement, and multidisciplinary collaboration to provide the highest standard of neurosurgical care
